Mild & tangy — safe for a mixed crowd
- Sweet's Fruit Sours — cherry, watermelon, piña colada and assorted. Chewy, fruit-forward, sour as a background note. Our best-selling sour candy.
- Charms Sweet and Sour Lollipops — 48-count, $15.99. Citric acid only.

What actually makes candy sour
Three food acids do most of the work, and the blend determines the character of the sourness:
- Citric acid — the bright, lemony sour. Fast to hit, fast to fade. Used alone in X-TREME Sour Smarties and Charms Sweet & Sour Lollipops.
- Malic acid — sharper and longer-lasting, the green-apple sour. This is the workhorse in most extreme candy. Warheads uses a microencapsulated form, which delays the release for that characteristic delayed wallop.
- Tartaric acid — harsher and less common. In our range it appears in Unwrapped Pez Sour Watermelon.
Blends are common: Gustaf's Sour Apple Dots use citric, malic and lactic acid together with sodium malate. Most of the extreme candies combine malic and citric.
Bulk sizes and pricing
The standard bulk tiers are 1 lb and 5 lb. Sweet's Fruit Sours run $7.99 for 1 lb and $36.99 for 5 lb — about $7.40 a pound at the larger size. Gustaf's uses 1.1 lb and 4.4 lb bags, Vidal uses 1.1 lb and 2.2 lb, and packaged branded items like Warheads and Toxic Waste are usually single-size. Nerds Gummy Clusters go all the way to a 30 lb case.

What is the sourest candy you sell?

Warheads uses microencapsulated malic acid for a delayed, very sharp hit; Toxic Waste layers a super sour core under the outer shell. If you want intensity without pain, X-TREME Sour Smarties are a step down.
Why does sour candy hurt your tongue?
The acids that create sourness are mildly corrosive to soft tissue. Eating a lot of very sour candy in one sitting can temporarily irritate the tongue and the roof of the mouth. It settles within a day or so. Spacing them out and rinsing with water afterwards helps.
What's the difference between citric and malic acid in candy?
Citric acid is the bright, quick, lemony sour that fades fast. Malic acid is sharper and lingers — it's what most extreme sour candies rely on. Candy makers often use both: citric for the initial brightness, malic for the sustained sourness underneath.
