Awesome Autumn Sweets - Easy DIY Ideas for Halloween & Thanksgiving!

Hey party people! I can't believe it's that time of the year again! There's a slight chill in the air, the leaves are falling, and suddenly all of your favorite stores are stocked with Halloween decorations. If you're anything like us at Bulk Candy Store, your first thought just might be: "Hmmm, how can I make fall even sweeter?" Lucky for you (and for us), I've brainstormed some awesome and creative ways to use some of our favorite fall treats for Halloween, Thanksgiving, or any other event you might have planned for the season. So get a pen and paper (or just screenshot this page, probably) and get ready to take autumn to the next level!

Mellocreme/Sour Gummi Pumpkin Patch

What You'll Need:

Pumpkins are, of course, the hallmark of the season. There's always the classics: pumpkin pie, pumpkin rolls, or pumpkin spice lattes. Or, sometimes, folks like to shake it up a bit by adding a splash of pumpkin cream in their coffee, bake pumpkin bread, or even whip up some pumpkin pasta! That's why we've decided to honor the fall fruit (yes, it's a fruit!) that started it all.

How, you ask? We've decided to put together a candy pumpkin patch that will serve as a wonderful addition to any candy display or dessert table you might have! It's very simple: first, we laid out our Sour Power Green Apple Belts flat on our parchment paper-lined tray so that the candy pumpkins could rest on them. We used Mellocreme Pumpkins because that was our favorite, but you could also use Sour Gummi Pumpkins as well! Then, we ripped our Sour Apple Licorice Laces into pieces and wrapped them around the pumpkins for a "vine" effect. Below is the finished product!

Gummi Bear Zombie

What You'll Need:

This one was just so much fun, and we guarantee that your Gummi Bear Zombie creation will be the the star of your Halloween candy table!

Cutting Into Bear

First and foremost, what you'll need to do is use a knife or other sharp tool to "scoop" the top of your gummi bear's head in between the ears. Please make sure an adult takes care of this part!

We had to stretch out the hole by gently tugging on the gummi bear's ears in opposite ends; that way, we could fit the gummi brain in easier. Once the hole is big enough, you can push the gummi brain into it using your fingers to push down. If you find it's a bit difficult, you can always make the hole bigger.

We then added two white Mini Pastel Jawbreakers for the eyes to give our Zombie a super spooky look. I took a small bite off one of the ears to give it a more "Zombie-fied" appearance. Finally, we placed our Zombie in a glass jar filled with Candy Bats & Bones so that it would stay upright. You can use any of our Halloween hard candies though; we've got bones, bats, and skulls that would all look great in your jar. Super easy yet super adorable. A win-win for everyone!

Chocolate-Dipped Fall Cookies

What You'll Need:

  •  Merckens Melting Wafers in chocolate of your choice
  • 2 tbsp Coconut Oil (If you're melting chocolate in the microwave)
  • Small pot and glass bowl, or double-boiler if you have one (If you're doing the double-boiler method)
  • Store-bought or homemade cookies of your choice
  • Apple Pie, Pumpkin Spice, or any other popcorn flavor of your choosing
  • Semicircle chocolate mold
  • Candy Corn
  • Candy Googly Eyes (which you can get from Amazon or Walmart)
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking or serving tray

The great thing about this one is that you can really use any cookie you want as your base. Chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, heck, even macadamia nut would all work amazingly here. If you're feeling ambitious, you could even bake your own instead of using store-bought!

Alas, I'm not being paid to bake cookies all day at the candy store (how weird would that be if I was?), so we used Publix bakery chocolate chip cookies. If you're not from the south and you're wondering what the heck Publix is, it's a wonderful, wonderful grocery store that we southerners take huge pride in. The next time you're vacationing in Florida or anywhere else in the south, be sure to stop in and grab a famous Chicken Tender Pub-Sub and some baked cookies :)

ANYWAAAY, enough about Chicken Tender Pub-Subs. Back to the task at hand. The first thing that we did was melt a few handfuls of Merckens Milk Chocolate Melting Wafers in the microwave with a spoonful of coconut oil, which we had on hand because we use it to make our popcorn! You can also use the double-boiler method as well. Merckens Melting Wafers are just so creamy and delicious, and they're absolutely perfect for any chocolate baking DIYs like this one. You can also use any of our other Merckens flavors as well if you're more of a Dark Chocolate or White Chocolate person.

We dipped each cookie front-side down into our container of melted chocolate and set it down on our tray lined with parchment paper. Then, very quickly before the chocolate started to harden, we added pieces of our Apple Pie and Pumpkin Spice popcorn on top of the cookies to make pretty designs like flowers or fall leaves. Once the chocolate completely hardens, they're ready to eat!

Dipping Cookies in Chocolate

We also created some ADORABLE Thanksgiving turkeys to go along with our popcorn cookies. We filled our semicircle mold with the same chocolate we melted for the cookies and popped it in the fridge for a few minutes to allow the chocolate to harden completely. Then, we took a freshly-dipped cookie and placed the chocolate semicircle on top. Once that set, we used a toothpick to dab some chocolate on the bottom of two candy googly eyes and placed them onto the chocolate semicircle. We then dipped the bottom of a piece of candy corn and placed it on the semicircle to make a beak. Finally, we placed five pieces of candy corn on the cookie to make feathers. SOOOO cute!!!

Cookie Turkey

IF you want to go the extra mile and make your turkeys stand up, you'll need to dip another cookie in chocolate and place the bottom edge of your turkey on top, as you can see to the right. We used a fork to hold it in place as the chocolate hardened. Once the chocolate was set, we took the fork away and VOILA! Below is the complete spread!

Vampire Stew

Okay, okay. If you're squeamish, this one miiiight not be for you. But for the rest of it, let's get into it. Mwahahahaha!!! 🧛🧛🧛

Strawberry Soda and Sprite

We took two bottles of Cool Mountain Strawberry Soda and a bottle of Sprite and mixed them in a large glass serving bowl. You can really use any red soda you want, but darker reds are better to emulate the color of BLOOD!!!

Then we added a couple handfuls of our Gummi Missing Body Parts (including eyes, fingers, brains, and bones) and our Gummi Skulls into our drink. The gummies will start to dissolve in the soda mixture and bubble and fizz like a witch's cauldron. The less you mix, the longer the fizzing will last. After a few hours the gummies will start to heavily disintegrate so make sure to serve early on in your event for maximum aesthetic points. You can customize this drink with liquor to make an alcoholic punch or even add dry ice to really take it to the next level.
